a case of a case

Happy Friday Friends!!

Quick and short post for you today. This is one of the cards we made last night for my monthly card making night/card club. I basically copied this EXACTLY from Angela at North Shore Stamper. I loved it so much that I didn't want to change a thing...right down to the Crisp Cantaloupe/Baked Brown Sugar color duo and chevron background! Angela originally cased this card (with a few changes) from Julie Davison. Both of these ladies are talented stampers and I love their work!!

SS Inkspiration - Framelits Friday!

Woo hoo! It's Framelits Friday over at the Stylin' Stampn' INKspiration blog! Each of the designers who are sharing today picked out one of Stampin' Up's framelits and created something fun to share with our readers.

Again, before I sat down to make my card to share with you, I thought about who was in need of a little snail mail and I remembered there was a sweet little baby and his mama and daddy who needed a congratulations card!! I kept it super simple because, honestly, I wanted the framelits to be the star of the show!!

The framelits I chose to use on my card were the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. This was my first time pulling them out of the package and it was so fun to put something like this together...I knew I wanted to make something that would work as a "frame".

First I cut the polka dotted Marina Mist DSP 5-1/4" x 4" and then centered one of the framelits right into the middle and ran it through the Big Shot. I adhered this right on top of my Real Red card base, so the red would show through the empty space in the middle. I picked up my {yet to be mounted at the time} Zoo Babies stamp set and inked up this little elephant in Smoky Slate. Isn't he just so cute? I then stamped the elephant and sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White and die cut the next size down. Using a Dimensional, I attached it to the inside of the empty space so that the red "framed the elephant".

Love these extra little touches...a tiny little heart on the bum, a pearl for his eye, and I popped up his little ear to give it some dimension as if it was flapping.

And what's one of my most favorite things about this card? It's mailable with no extra postage!! ;)

All this talk about framelits is the perfect timing as the Magnetic Platform is now available again starting yesterday! Be sure to order yours quick (who knows if there will be another ordering freeze...these puppies are a hot item!!) This is an awesome tool to help keep those framelits in place as you're rolling it through the Big Shot!

Stylin' Stampin Squad Blog Hop - products we love!

Thank you so much for joining us for the September Stylin’  Stampin’ Squad Blog Hop! This month we are focusing on the tools of the stampin’ trade. Specifically, each of our favorite stamping tools. It’s amazing the kinds of tools that have been created to help us along in our paper-crafting addictions. This month’s blog hop will showcase many of the Stampin’ Up! tools that are now available to us in the 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Holiday Catalog and even a couple of products that are so new they aren’t in either catalog. We hope you enjoy seeing how we use the old and new tools and are inspired to come up with some great projects of your own.

You should have just left stop number 8 on the Stylin’ Stampin’ Squad blog hop – Justin K. of JK Cards. If so, you are in the right spot. If a link doesn’t work or you get off track, you will find the full blog hop lineup below.

I will be showcasing one of my favorite tools today called the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig. It is the best little tool for all of you who are perfectionist stamper like me! :)

This is the perfect tool to keep you from ever ruining a whole project with one crooked image! The stamp positioner gives you the ability to place an image exactly where you want it, every time.

I have four cards to share with you today and each one I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for just the right positioning. I wanted to be able to showcase a variety of simple cards I created...specifically ones I will be popping in the mail today! I have really been working at making cards I know I will use right away, so four of my lucky friends will be getting one of these cards in the mail soon. :)

First up...I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line up perfectly the "Yippee-Skippee" sentiment. This sentiment is a single stamp which I re-inked with the five in-colors and stamped repeatedly. Although this stamp set is a clear mount stamp there is NO WAY I would have been able to line up those words in a perfect straight line each time. This is where the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig comes to the rescue!

Before we move onto the remaining three cards, here is a quick overview on how to use the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig if you haven't seen it used before. You can also look for a YouTube video on how to use it...there are a ton!

Line up the plastic sheet and stamp in the corner of the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig stamping directly onto the plastic sheet. This will serves as your "template".

Once you have stamped your first line, then take the plastic sheet and line it up where you want it to be. Take the sheet away, but KEEP THE STAMP-A-MA-JIG IN PLACE.

The photo below shows how I am lining up the stamp in the corner of the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig without the plastic sheet underneath. I had already placed the "template" where I wanted my sentiment to go.

This photo shows how I continue to use the plastic sheet to line up my words perfectly.

Now onto more cards...

This particular card I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line up exactly where I wanted each of the "hello" sentiments to be.

Using the plastic sheet, I had stamped the "hello" and then moved it all around the paper to where I wanted the "hello" to be, removing the plastic sheet each time but keeping the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig in place and then putting my stamp in the corner of it.

On this card, I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to place the pennants perfectly on top of the cake (comes separate from the cake base). This stamp set is wood, so I particularly like not having to guess where the image will go!

This photo shows me lining up my template to where I wanted the pennants to go on top of the cake.

And, lastly I wanted the sentiment on this card to be placed "just so". I knew I had mounted the words on this stamp just a little bit crooked, so the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig helped me with straightening it out on my final product.

And, now it's time for the BONUS TOOL that is also another one of my favorites...

PAPER SNIPS!!
These little bad boys are so awesome and cut all of the intricate little places. I love having that extra dimension on a card and oftentimes I want to cut out something that doesn't have a punch or framelit to coordinate, so I pull out my Paper Snips and start trimming!

Click on the picture below for more detail and to order yours!

Here are the Paper Snips in action for a couple of my cards I showcased above. Look how the tip gets right into those intricate places. Love it!!

Phew! Did you make it to the end of that post? Sorry...just so much to share about this awesome tool! Now, it's time to move along the hop and visit Jennifer of NW Stamper to see what Stampin' Up! tool she is in love with right now!

And, tomorrow I'll be sharing a card for the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog for "Framelits Friday". If you haven't yet visited our new blog, please head on over after you've hopped all the way through the blog hop. We INKspire you 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year! Come take a look!

what's new?

Oops! I guess I got caught up in the back to school craziness and left my little blog here quiet for longer than anticipated. But...that's what I LOVE about my job! I can take a break to focus on my family (#1 priority!!) and then come on back once things fall back into a routine, so here I am again!! Both of my kids started school last week. Just a couple of weeks before school started we decided that my son would attend FULL DAY Kindergarten instead of the half day we had planned on. As much as I am going to miss my little buddy around I am 100% positive this was the best decision for both me and him...he is loving it so far!!

{1st Day of School - September 2013}

What's new with Stampin' Up!?

The Envelope Punch Board is now available!
(#133774, $19.95)

  • It creates totally customizable envelopes in up to 66 different sizes (not to mention a million different color and pattern options depending on the paper you want to use). Even tried and true envelope sizes will only take you moments to create!
  • It's super easy to use; it looks intimidating at first glance, but all you have to do is measure for the first punch and from there you just turn and score...you'll go crazy (in a good way).
  • It's small and lightweight; which means it's super portable and easy to store. It's small and light enough that you could use it while watching a soccer match, at a park, at a friend's for craft night-anywhere.
  • It even has a slick scoring tool as well as a punch that lets you create rounded corners on your envelopes.
  • It's easy to keep it all together; the stylus storage compartment and two punches are designed into the tool so you don't have a bunch of little pieces to keep track of (even the instructions are printed right on the tool so you won't lose them!).
  • The price is terrific-especially for a tool that does so much!
  • It will be in next year's annual catalog, so it's here to stay.

SS Inkspiration - August Scrapbook Sketch (puppy love)

It's a fun Monday morning because I get to share with you a scrapbook page I created using the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration August Scrapbook Sketch. Let me start with saying that it has been A LONG time since I've done any scrapbooking!! I used to scrapbook quite often when the kids were little, but for some reason it got a little too overwhelming with trying to keep up, so it kind of fizzled out and I have since stuck with mostly cards. But when the opportunity arose for me to participate in this month's scrapbook sketch, I went for it! I must say this little taste got me excited to do it again.

This month's sketch was created by one of our design team members Jennifer Campbell. Each of us were inspired to use this sketch as a starting point and create something that would pop off the page. I knew instantly which pictures I was going to choose! This is my daughter with her cousins' puppy last summer. She LOVES dogs so much and it is such a joy to watch her interact. These pictures just melted my heart and was almost enough to break me down to get her her own dog...almost.

{one of my favorite pictures...she looks so happy!}

We would love for you to come by to visit and see what the other design team members have come up with...and you can come play along, too! Visit us at SSInkspiration!

hip hip hooray (FMS99)

It's a late Sunday night post, but I couldn't help but join in the fun over at Freshly Made Sketches with this week's clean and simple sketch. I don't know if you have caught on yet here on my blog for those who visit on a regular basis, but I am a BIG FAN of clean and simple. It helps me feel confident in making cards in a quick and easy way to get them in the mail (and sometimes without having to pay extra postage...LOL!) I specifically had someone in mind when I started making this card. A friend of mine and her family have been on a long journey of trying to sell their home and after many, many trials it finally happened and I was so excited to be able to celebrate with her! So, this calls for a card that says hip-hip-hooray...you've finally reached this day!!

Each pinwheel is "jumping" off the page...and oh how I love the new candy dots!

love story polaroid

I am attending a wedding today of a former student of mine from back when I taught 5th grade! I'm guessing probably 10 years ago?! Now if that doesn't make me feel a little old...

I wanted to create for the bride and groom a one of a kind card for their special day, so I grabbed my Color Coach (#130118 / $14.95) to help give me some ideas. The Color Coach is useful during those times you just need a little extra help in coming up with colors that look good together. Don't forget you'll need to purchase the In-Color cards separately!! (2012-2014: #130119 / $2.50, 2013-2015: #130120 / $2.50) I flipped the pages until I came to the combo Crumb Cake, Raspberry Ripple, and Perfect Plum and decided to go for it!

Using the Versamark pad, I stamped the background with my current favorite background stamp Positively Chevron and then embossed using Iridescent Ice embossing powder (see the sparkle there on the top right of the card?) The "Polaroid" frame was made using the new Squares Collection Framelits...which I just got in my box of goodies this week! I saw the "Polaroid" as a demonstration at Convention and was excited to try one of my own. On the inside of the card is stamped the second part of the greeting: "Wishing you a lifetime of HAPPINESS".
