dancing Christmas elf shoes

Earlier this week I held a "paper party" at my friend Jenn's house. She invited a handful of her friends over for some holiday cheer before the busy-ness of the season hits! We enjoyed a relaxing evening of drinks, food, card making, and chatting with friends. It was nice to meet some new stampers who I might just see at my next monthly card making night!

One of the two cards we made is an oldie but a goodie. You may have seen these cute little Christmas elf shoes in the past and probably all over blog land. In fact, we made one last year at a downline meeting. I decided it was time to make him again, but re-created with current product.

How to make the elf shoes:

I had gone ahead and made a sample out of thin cardboard, so each of the guests could use it as a "guide". See below on how we used it.

Cut out the Top Note Die shape in whatever color you would like the elf shoes.

Line the pointed edge of the shape at 1-1/2" on the paper trimmer.

Line up the guide over the green piece.

Punch out each half circle with a 1-1/4" circle punch.

This is what it will look like once the half circles are punched out.

Then cut right down the middle.

Other helpful hints:

  • I sponged the edges of each shoe to make them stand out a little bit more.
  • The legs are measured at 2-1/2" x 5/8".
  • The little "balls" on the shoes are punched out of red glimmer paper with a 3/4" circle punch and popped up with a Dimensional.
  • The little ruffles around the top of the shoes are made from the Baked Brown Sugar Ruffle Stretch Trim (each is about 7/8" long). I adhered them using two mini glue dots.

SS INKspiration - Friday Favorites (Halloween Treat Box)

Yippee!! It’s Friday Favorites over at Stylin’ Stampin’INKspiration and I am so excited to share with you some of my FAVORITE products right now!

I am loving the Decorative Window Gift Boxes that are in the Holiday Catalog (p. 36 / #132146, $4.95 for 6 boxes). There are so many fun things you can do with them and they are the perfect finishing touch for a special gift that can be tucked inside! (Another example of this box I decorated was the Butterfly Gift Box that holds a gift of 3x3 cards and envelopes.) I am also showcasing another favorite today...GLITTER!! Who doesn't love a little extra sparkle on your project?

Since Halloween is just around the corner and I love giving out sweet treats, I thought it would be the perfect chance to spruce up one of these boxes for Halloween creating something perfect for boxing up goodies. I filled this box with Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses, but I think other homemade goodies would look fun peeking through the "window" like decorated sugar cookies or yogurt covered pretzels drizzled with orange and black. The ideas are endless!

To create a Halloween Treat Box of your own, you will need:
 1 Decorative Window Gift Box
4 pieces of Witches' Brew DSP (1 3/8" x 3 7/8")
1 Basic Black square (3 7/8" x 3 7/8")
Approx. 28 inches Pumpkin Pie 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon

I used the Circle Framelits and created a hole in the middle of the square (I just eye-balled it as best I could to make it centered).

Adhere this to the top of the box. I used SNAIL adhesive for this step.

Adhere are all four pieces of DSP to each side of the box.

Now, here comes the fun part ~ GLITTER!!

To make the "glitter ring" that goes around the window, I used my Circle Framelits and a scrap piece of Pumpkin Pie cardstock to create a ring. Again, I just eye-balled it as best I could.

This is what it will look like once you have it cut out.

To add glitter, press it down onto the Versamark covering the entire ring.

Sprinkle Heat & Stick Powder all over it.

Heat set it using the Heat Tool. It will turn shiny and the white powder will disappear.

Douse it in orange glitter and then heat set it one more time for the glitter to stick.

I used SNAIL adhesive around the edge of the window and adhered the glitter circle to the top.

I finished it off with a simple "Trick or Treat" from the Tags 4 You stamp set. I left off the spiders on this image by coloring the stamp with Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie markers.

Complete your box by tying a bow around it. Now you have yourself a cute little box to give someone on Halloween filled with treats!

valentine's treats - big shot style!

My monthly Big Shot Club met last night. What a fun group of ladies...they always keep me laughing!!

I wanted to create some Valentine's treat holders for the gals to make since Valentine's Day is fast approaching. First up is this cute little Scallop Square treat holder filled with a baggie of heart-shaped cherry flavored gummies. I have seen many different tutorials on how to make this fun box. However, I created my own short "how to" for my club gals and thought I would share it here, as well.

1. Cut a 5x5 square of cardstock and with the Big Shot Die-Cutting machine, cut a scallop square using the Scallop Square Clear Bigz Die (#115950, $21.95).
2. Using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, score at 1-1/2” and 2-7/8”

3. Rotate the square and score again at 1” and 3-3/8”.
4. Crease all of the scored lines with your bone folder. Snip the two middle pieces on both sides (see picture below).
5. Place sticky strip as seen below on both sides.

6. Fold into a box by adhering together on both sides.

7. Embellish for any occasion! (If desired, add a handle.)
Project Recipe
Stamp Set: Itty Bitty Banners
Paper: Primrose Petals, Pool Party, Whisper White, Red Glimmer Paper, More Amore DSP
Ink: Real Red
Accessories: Dimensionals, Rhinestones, Soda Pop Tops, 1/8" Real Red Taffeta Ribbon
Tools: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine, Scallop Square Clear Bigz Die, Doily Sizzlits, Itty Bitty Banners Framelits, 1/2" Circle punch, Two-Step Owl punch (mini heart)

Our second Valentine's treat holder uses the Petite Pocket Die (#123131, $42.95). I used a skinny cello bag filled halfway with red, pink, and white M & M's and tucked it into the open pocket. I added a piece of DSP for the top inside to add a little extra and added my own stamped heart background on the front of the pocket. It's decorated with images from the new Hearts a Flutter stamp set (love!)
Project Recipe

We also made a fun card using a couple of new embossing folders from the Spring Catalog, so come on back tomorrow! Happy stamping, friends!
